Top performers from around South Africa are preparing a day of dazzling entertainment at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on March 21 in a bid to raise R1 million to help fulfill the dreams of scores of children who are fighting life-threatening illnesses.

The fun-filled Right to Dream day kicks off at 10am tomorrow (Human Rights Day), with Kfm presenter Jeremy Harris playing host for the event that will raise funds for the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

Among the marvellous performers audiences can expect are legendary blues-musician Dan Patlansky, an act from Madame Zingara, Ballistic Blues, Studio K, Reach For A Dream’s very own dreamer Robyn van Rooyen, and dance routines from Dance For All and the Brooklyn Hip Hop Crew.

You can show your support for Reach For A Dream and help to make dreams come true by purchasing a Reach For A Dream beautifully beaded bracelet at the event for a mere R30. Proceeds will go towards the fulfillment of children’s dreams.

The making of the Dream Bracelet was facilitated by Relate, a 100% not-for-profit social enterprise that creates opportunities to change lives. Relate’s unique model sees the majority of proceeds positively impacting the lives of others.

“Our vision is to provide hope and joy to children and their families fighting life-threatening illnesses. Experiencing a dream come true is both magical and inspiring for these children, as are the smiles on their faces at the end of their dream day,” says Heidi Rowley, Reach For A Dream Western Cape Branch Manager.

“With such amazing performers lined up for the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre, the day promises to be full of fun for families and I just know Cape Town will show their generosity by buying bracelets to help us fulfil these children’s dreams.”

Reach For A Dream bracelets will be on sale until 1 April 2013 at the following V&A Waterfront retailers and hotels: Aromatic Apothecary, Cape Union Mart, Old Khaki, Poetry, Clicks, Forever New, Hurley, Pick ‘n Pay, Spilhaus, Toy Kingdom, Two Oceans Aquarium, Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge and Protea Hotel North Wharf. Reach For A Dream will also have a bracelet stand outside Zara where you can buy bracelets and pin your special dream to the Wall of Dreams.

The Oscars buzz seemed to have taken over Cape Town earlier last week! To coincide with this annual prestigious Hollywood awards event, Glamour Magazine hosted its annual Oscars Night party at The Table Bay Hotel in The Mother City.

Invited guests were asked to dress up in black tie fashion with “a hint of purple and white”. For once it was nice to see many of the guests actually stick to the theme – which made the event such a pleasure to attend.

Of course, with PR giant Jill Groger from Zebra Square PR (pictured above)  manning the exclusive guest list, it was no surprise that even on a blistering Monday night, the “who’s who” took to the red carpet at the luxurious five star hotel and came out to support Hollywood’s finest – even though it was via an AV TV screen in South Africa.

Top Billing’s Jeannie D, who is looking ultra slim and sexy these days, was the emcee for the evening. She’s proof that new-found love can make one look happy and blissful and really had the crowd eating out of her hand.

Cape Town’s usual A-Listers all came out to play on the evening, including Liezel van der Westhuizen (who was doing interviews for Fashion One – an international TV show), actress and TV personality Natalie Becker (who donned a sexy Jenni Button number), The Wild actor Ty Keogh and Nicole Flint (who looked ravishing in a floor-length black KlukGDT ensemble and gets my Best Dressed Award for the evening), actress Lee-Anne Summers, actor Bjorn Steinbach as well as celebrity commentator and TV personality Jen Su (I take my hat off to her for attending almost every event on the social calender).

Cape Town’s (Slaapstad as it’s affectionately known) events never seemed to start on time soccer, and I couldn’t help but notice late entrants couple Matthew and Sonia Booth as well as journalist Tanya Nefdt all looking ravishing in their ensembles, and made it just in time as the first Oscar was being presented on screen.’s Tanya Nefdt and TV presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen

Even though Hollywood-based actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim didn’t stick to the dress code, wearing a white African-themed suite with sandals, he was forgiven as he interacted with almost every guest, who were all excited to see him in person and hear more about the US TV show he is filming in The Mother City as the moment.

I was really impressed with the Basil Crusted Scottish Salmon main course dish as well as the Strawberry Mirror Cake dessert served on the night, but was disappointed that I only got to sip on wines and Ceres juices. I would have loved to enjoyed being treated to some champagne throughout the evening and toast to all the Oscar glory throughout the awards ceremony – we were paying tribute to Hollywood royalty after all.

On Saturday 2nd February, SABC3 will be adding an extra sparkle to one of Cape Town’s top fashion and racing events – the J&B Met, with SA’s ultimate authorities in glamour presenting live from the red carpet.

‘It’ girls Jeannie D and Bonang Matheba will be reporting live from the frontlines at Cape Town’s Kenilworth Race Course, along with the fashionista himself, Somizi Mhlongo, joined by sports presenter Vaylen Kirtley .

As the hosts of this prestigious event, the four presenters will bring up-to-the-minute horse racing, fashion news, action and the low down from behind the scenes right to the viewers’ living rooms. Expect live interviews, celebrity fashion, designer do’s and don’ts, and their votes on the best (and worst) dressed.

They’ll be needing plenty of help from the armchair critics, so viewers need to follow SABC3 on Twitter and tweet them their expert fashion advice for the stars! Remember, the official hashtag for this event is #MetOnSABC3.

As the lifestyle anchor, Jeannie D will be stationed at fashion central, on the J&B red carpet. Bonang will be the official celebrity schmoozer, poised inside the J&B marquee, and Somizi will be entertaining viewers with his tongue-in-cheek quips between ‘plebville’ and the hospitality village.

For the avid equestrians – SABC sports presenter Vaylen Kirtley will bring the viewers up to speed, giving you race side seats to all the latest from the track.

Says Risuna Mayimele, SABC3 Marketing Manager, “We are very excited to broadcast live to the nation. The channel is offering the best of both worlds – fashion and racing. We look foward to giving viewers an accurate and entertaining overview of the day’s activities – showcasing South African talent in more ways than one. We have decided to include lifestyle coverage to support the horse racing broadcast. We know that most people follow the race, not only for just the horses, but for the lifestyle element that comes with it as well. That is the reason SABC3 has decided to show the viewers the fashion as it happens.

We believe that the exciting foursome of Jeannie, Bonang, Somizi, and Vaylen is a make up of appealing hosts and that the presentation will be slick, entertaining and at times even humorous.”

The J&B Met will be broadcast live on SABC 3 on Saturday 02 February at 2:30pm to 5pm. Follow the action on Twitter under the #MetOnSABC3 hashtag or Twitter.
